Week 10 Preview: Tables are Turning

Ottawa, Ont. — Ah, Week 10.

The weather is beginning to take a turn for the worse, with winds blowing and rain threatening to turn to slushy snow, and the CCHL regular season is moving into its middle third.

Teams are beginning to announce their intentions as buyers — Ottawa went out-of-league to pick up longtime OHL goaltender Connor Hicks — and sellers.

Jason Clarke’s Carleton Place Canadians have won 12 in a row, and are now ranked 4th in the CJHL’s national rankings. Can anybody stop them?

STORYLINES

  1. Surging Cellar — It’s no secret the Kemptville 73’s and Navan Grads had rough ‘first periods’ to begin the 2017-18 season. While they’re still a combined 11-30-1 (.274), both picked up potentially season-changing wins last weekend. Both Kemptville (@BRO, @CP) and Navan (@ KAN, v NEP, v COR) have winnable games on their schedule in Week 10.
  2. Sliding Bears — Smiths Falls had a historically-bad October, posting a 1-8-2 record, and has not won a game in over a month. With Pembroke and Rockland — both above .500 — on the docket this weekend, the Bears will need to change something in order to avoid their losing streak reaching double digits.
  3. Untouchable CP — The national No.-4 Canadians have won 12 in a row, and not even Martin Dagenais’s high-octane Jr. Sens (CJHL No. 11) could beat them on Wednesday night. With a struggling Rockland and last-place Kemptville on the slate in Week 10, it’s tough to see C.P.’s streak ending anytime soon.
