BANTAM PROTECTED DRAFT

FAQ’s

 

1.When is the draft? Monday, March 2, 2020 at 6:00 pm

 

2.Where is the draft? Nepean Sportsplex – Salon A & B Entrance at the back of the complex.

 

3.Who is eligible? 2005 birth players residing in HEO that reside with their parent(s) or guardian. USA players who appealed to play in HEO are free agents and eligible to play pending another appeal. HEO players at residential academies are eligible for the draft. Non-HEO residents are free agents provided they do not require appeal to Hockey Canada.

 

4.Should I come to the draft? Yes if selected! All players are notified prior to 3 pm that they’ve been selected on Monday March 2nd.

 

5.Who will select me? Teams must be within 65 km of your residence or have your consent if they are farther than that, to select you.

 

6.What happens at the draft? Players and parents will meet the team personnel from the Junior A and U18 staff and have the opportunity to get information on spring and summer training options, get fitted for CCM gear and the option to buy at our special league prices.

 

7.What steps are next to play U18? Team tryouts for U18 cannot begin before August 15, 2020. You may be invited to attend Junior A

rookie camp or participate in programs but none

are mandatory to play U18.

 

8.If I’m not drafted can I still play? Yes! We have free agents camps that we will be posting more information about after the draft. About 20% of the players each year are not drafted who make the U18 AAA league.

 

9.If I am released what happens? You can try out for any other U18 team if you are released from the team that drafted you.

 

10.) Who owns my Junior A rights? Once selected you are the property of that team at the Junior A level. If you are released from U18, you are a free agent. If you make U18 as a free agent you become the property of the team you play for.
