Smiths Falls survives penalties, beats Gloucester, 6-3

 

The Smiths Falls Bears' penalty kill was superb, as Smiths Falls survived multiple penalties to beat the Gloucester Rangers, 6-3.

 

The Bears were led by Anthony DiPlacido, who tallied one goal. DiPlacido scored 19:09 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Smiths Falls. Michael McKenney picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls stifled Gloucester's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears forced the Rangers goalie Cedric Hansen to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Smiths Falls surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bears average 3.9 goals per game.

Smiths Falls also got points from Chris MacMillan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Jaylon Gorman, Matthew Kenney, Corey Caruso, and Nicolas Coates, who each put in one. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Cole Busschaert, who had two, Kevin Groulx, who had three, and Broydon Stufko and Rutkowski Joey, who contributed one each.

Gloucester excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

The Rangers were helped by Shane McCrank, who grabbed one goal. McCrank scored 1:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Sander Boroczky assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Gloucester included Jacob Kendrick and Paul Vella, who scored one goal each. More assists for Gloucester came via Darcy Walsh, Matt Adams, Joe Delandro, and Jordan Renaud, who each chipped in one.

Dyllan Lubbesmeyer made 15 saves for Smiths Falls on 18 shots. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Gloucester's Hansen stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
