Ottawa vanquishes Nepean in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Nepean Raiders in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout.

 

Ottawa managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Senators finished below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. Ottawa kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and Francis Marotte made 43 saves on 46 shots.

The Senators were helped by Johnathan Kovacevic, who tallied one goal. Kovacevic scored 2:10 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Isaac Anderson picked up the assist. William Cullen also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Daniel Sarracco, Samuel Meisenheimer, and Elie Boulerice, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Ottawa was unable to stop Nepean from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Nepean was helped by Derek Varrin, who finished with one goal. Varrin scored 12:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Hunter Garlasco assisted on the tally. Nepean also got a goal from Luke McCaw as well. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Josh Zizek, Jody Sullivan, and Rory Garlasco, who contributed one each.

The Senators' Ian Andriano stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Raiders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
