Ottawa vanquishes Kemptville in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Kemptville 73s in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Kemptville's shootout goal was scored by Matt Tugnutt. Ottawa's other shootout goal was scored by Jody Sullivan.

 

The Senators came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Ottawa trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the 73s' Jake Gaudet at 3:35 in the second period. The Senators knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jared Leslie at 4:26 in the third period.

Ottawa kept Kemptville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Hodgins made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The Senators were helped by Sullivan, who had one goal. Sullivan scored short handed 3:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ottawa played down a man on Alexandre Way's elbowing. Sean Rappleyea picked up the assist. More assists for Ottawa came via Elie Boulerice, who had one.

The 73s stifled the Senators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Owen Guy also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Cameron Russell, who had two and Tugnutt and Victor Tracy, who each chipped in one.

Ian Andriano recorded 19 saves for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kemptville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
