Nepean falls to Kanata in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

 

The Kanata Lasers pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Nepean Raiders on a clutch goal by Jacob Balca.

 

Kanata came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lasers trailed 2-0 after a goal by Nepean's PJ Heger at 8:54 in the first period. Kanata knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Samuel Meisenheimer at 8:30 in the third period.

Tyler Young had two goals to lead the Lasers to victory. Young found the back of the net 12:47 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 13:24 into the second to make the score 3-2 Kanata.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:18 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Kanata forced the Raiders' goalies to work all game long, launching 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Francis Marotte made 10 stops and Jack Ondrovic made 20. The Lasers bested their season scoring average. Kanata averages 1.9 goal per game.

Kanata also got points from Balca, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Kanata also had goals scored by David Silye and Cole Lussier, who scored one goal each. More assists for Kanata came via Yannick Martel and Louis-Charles Croteau, who each chipped in one and David Pearce and Joey Laird, who contributed two each.

Nepean's offense rang up 33 shots on the Lasers' net. The Raiders got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Nepean additionally got points from Raphael Lecours, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Justin Schebel as well. In addition, Nepean received assists from Josh Zizek, who had two and Daniel Porter, Martin Lavallee, and Peter Sigouin, who each chipped in one.

Kanata's Patrick Kealey stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Lasers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Kanata, Ty Power was ejected from the game. Nepean totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Hess was ejected from the game.
