Ottawa beats Cumberland 3-2 after comeback scare

 

The Cumberland Grads tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Ottawa Senators would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Ottawa made the score 3-1 on a goal by Jody Sullivan at 54 seconds in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 3-2 when Branden Makara scored 5:58 into the third period.

 

The Senators were led by Sullivan, who had one goal.

Others who scored for Ottawa included Alexandre Way and Greg Meireles, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ottawa came via Isaac Anderson, Luke McCaw, Mitchell Gibson, Zacharie Car, Jaren Burke, and Jim Pearson, who contributed one each.

The Grads could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Cumberland averages 4.2 goals per game.

Marc-Olivier Bouchard also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Shawn Cameron and Martin Frechette, who each chipped in one.

Ian Andriano recorded 27 saves for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Thierry Messervier made 24 saves for the Grads on 27 shots. Cumberland incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
