Nepean beats Cornwall 6-5 after comeback scare

 

The Cornwall Colts tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Nepean Raiders would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

A goal by Rowan Savidant put Nepean up 4-1 in the first period, but Cornwall pulled to within one on Nick Lalonde's tally 12:17 into the third period.

 

In the losing effort, the Colts were paced by Matthew Morin, who racked up two goals. Morin scored the first of his two goals at 13:00 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Nepean. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Morin's next tally made the score 4-4 with 4:59 left in the third period. Parker Krol provided the assist.

The Raiders' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Nepean averages 2.3 goals per contest.

The Raiders were helped by Josh Zizek, who had one goal and one assist. Zizek scored 19:37 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Nepean. Kari Belec picked up the assist. Nepean additionally got points from Mike Finger, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ugo Roik, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Nepean included Justin Schebel and William Cullen, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Blake Dalton, who had one and Samuel Meisenheimer, who had three.

Nepean was unable to stop Cornwall from sending pucks towards the net, and the Colts eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Cornwall also got points from Derouchie, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Grant Cooper, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, Lawson MacDonald, Tanner Spink, Jeremy McFarlane, Lawson MacDougall, and Roddie Sandilands, who contributed one each.

Francis Marotte rejected 28 shots on goal for the Raiders. Nepean incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cornwall took out Brett Nichol after he had made four saves and installed Liam Lascelle in goal, where he finished with 16 saves and the loss. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
