Kemptville holds on for 5-3 win against Cumberland

 

The Cumberland Grads tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Kemptville 73s held on for a 5-3 victory.

Kemptville made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jason Tackett at 10:28 in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 5-3 when Zackhary Salloum scored 14:24 into the third period.

 

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Kemptville gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The 73s kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Thierry Messervier made 40 saves on 45 shots. Kemptville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the 73s finished with 18 penalty minutes.

Kemptville was helped by Cameron Bisson, who grabbed one goal. Bisson scored 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyson Kirkby assisted on the tally. Kemptville also got points from Adam Alavi, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Tackett, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Matt Tugnutt, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kemptville also got a goal from Alex Row as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Kaelan OFlynn, Neal Samanski, Matthew Titus, Brandon Cole, and Bobby Dow, who contributed one each.

Cumberland forced the 73s goalie Peter Brooks to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Grads were helped by Cody Kyle, who had one goal. Kyle scored 8:59 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Kemptville. Simon Besner provided the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Salloum, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Shawn Cameron, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Mathieu Dubois, Raphael Larose, and Martin Frechette, who each chipped in one.

Kemptville's Brooks stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The 73s registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
