Brockville uses shootout to best Gloucester, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brockville Braves defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

 

Brockville stifled Gloucester's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Braves forced the Rangers goalie Georgis Rentopoulos to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Brockville was led by Michael Murray, who finished with one goal and one assist. Murray scored 5:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Thomas Dunleavy picked up the assist. Jack Billings also scored for Brockville. In addition, Brockville received assists from Eric Faith, who had one.

Gloucester put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Braves to score on any of their six power plays. Brockville was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and Gloucester eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Rangers were helped by Vincent Guimond, who grabbed one goal. Guimond scored 16:13 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Salim Mahi-Beaudry assisted on the tally. Gloucester also got a goal from Darcy Walsh as well. More assists for Gloucester came via Jacob Kendrick, Liam Hunter, and Ty Morelli, who contributed one each.

Henry Johnson made 35 saves for the Braves on 37 shots. Brockville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Rentopoulos rejected 40 shots on goal for Gloucester. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
