Kanata vanquishes Gloucester in shootout, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Lasers defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

 

Kanata came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lasers trailed 1-0 after a goal by Gloucester's Drew Shields at 13:55 in the first period. Kanata knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Tyler Young at 19:31 in the second period.

The Lasers' Jordan Vachon was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 37 saves and let only one puck past him. Vachon managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.75 prior to the game.

Kanata forced the Rangers goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

More assists for Kanata came via Yannick Martel and Taylor Carlson, who contributed one each.

Gloucester's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kanata power plays. The Rangers' offense rang up 38 shots on the Lasers' net.

In addition, Gloucester received assists from Jacob Kendrick and Liam Hunter, who each chipped in one.

Kanata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Doug Johnston made 49 saves for Gloucester on 50 shots. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
