Cumberland downs Cornwall, 5-2

 

Mathieu Dubois had two points to lead the Cumberland Grads to a 5-2 victory over the Cornwall Colts.

 

Cornwall was unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 61 shots on goal. Cumberland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cumberland additionally got points from Marc-Olivier Bouchard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cumberland also had goals scored by Ted McCabe, Martin Frechette, and Joey Sollazzo, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Zackhary Salloum, who had two and Matthieu Franche, Branden Makara, Michael Larose, Cody Kyle, and Jared Leslie, who each chipped in one.

The Colts forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Cornwall surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Colts were helped by Tanner Spink, who tallied one goal. Spink scored 13:07 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Lawson MacDonald also scored for Cornwall. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Ross Craig and Nick Lalonde, who contributed one each.

Thierry Messervier made 20 saves for the Grads on 22 shots. Cumberland registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Liam Lascelle recorded 56 saves for Cornwall. The Colts registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Cornwall ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Konnor MacCormick was ejected from the game.
