Hawkesbury hangs on, beats Kemptville 3-1

 

The Hawkesbury Hawks took the lead against the Kemptville 73s in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Hawkesbury took over the lead for good with a goal by Johnathan Kovacevic at 7:43 in the first period. Bruno Cheff picked up the assist.

 

Kemptville was stymied by the Hawks' netminder Andrew Tucci, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Tucci certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.94 entering the contest.

Hawkesbury was paced by Jonathan Cyr, who had one goal. Cyr scored 9:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hawkesbury. Joe Smith provided the assist.

Hawkesbury also got a goal from Jonathan Tecce as well. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Vincent Crivello, Brandon Barillaro, and Chris Smith, who contributed one each.

The 73s stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kemptville was held below its usual level of production. The 73s average 3.6 goals per game.

Kemptville was led by Tyson Kirkby, who scored the team's only goal. Kirkby scored on the power play 7:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. The 73s had gotten the advantage when Hawkesbury's Cheff was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Victor Tracy picked up the assist.

The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nicholas Hodgins recorded 24 saves for Kemptville. The 73s incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
