Kanata uses shootout to best Cumberland, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Lasers defeated the Cumberland Grads in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

 

Kanata saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Lasers made the score 2-0 on a goal by Mike McArthur at 9:52 in the third period. Cumberland evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mathieu Dubois at 17:17 in the third period.

Kanata also got points from David Pearce, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Sam Tremblay and Declan Hilton, who contributed one each.

The Grads did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Cumberland puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Grads forced Kanata goalie Alex Butler to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Cumberland was helped by Ted McCabe, who finished with one goal. McCabe scored 13:17 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kanata. Benoit Villeneuve picked up the assist. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Marc-Olivier Bouchard, Shawn Cameron, and Jared Leslie, who each chipped in one.

Butler rejected 40 shots on goal for the Lasers. Kanata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Ryan Coughlin made 26 saves for the Grads on 28 shots. Cumberland incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
