Carleton Place's comeback falls short, Ottawa wins 4-2

 

The Ottawa Senators, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Carleton Place Canadians and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Ottawa led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Senators' Louis-Charles Croteau scored at 9:21 in the second period to put Ottawa up 3-0.

 

Mitchell Gibson was all over the ice for the Senators, as he had two goals in the win. Gibson found the back of the net 18:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa and again while 3:22 into the second to make the score 2-0 Ottawa.

Ottawa's penalty kill excelled, as the Senators gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Ottawa additionally got points from Jody Sullivan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Alexandre Way, Evan Lindquist, Geoffrey Lawson, and Jaren Burke, who contributed one each.

Carleton Place excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Canadians were held below their usual level of production. Carleton Place averages 4.2 goals per game.

The Canadians were helped by Tim Theochardis, who registered one goal. Theochardis scored on the power play 5:14 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. Carleton Place had gained a power play chance when Gibson was whistled for high sticking. Brett Murray provided the assist. Will LeNeave also scored for Carleton Place. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Logan Buchanan, Alex Robinson, and Nicolas Carrier, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa's Ian Andriano stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Senators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Colton Point rejected 25 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
