Hawkesbury wins tough contest against Cornwall, 4-2

 

The Hawkesbury Hawks and the Cornwall Colts were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hawkesbury made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Hawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Joe Smith 18:26 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

 

Hawkesbury got the win with help from a great game by Brett Everson, who had two goals and one assist. Everson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. The Hawks had taken the advantage when Cornwall's Lawson MacDougall got sent off for roughing. Johnathan Kovacevic assisted on the tally. Everson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Hawkesbury with 10:20 left in the third period. Hawkesbury had gotten the advantage when the Colts' Eric Verville was sent off for roughing. Charles Levesque picked up the assist.

The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cornwall to score on any of its three power plays.

Hawkesbury also got a goal from Chris Smith as well.

The Colts struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Hawkesbury to score three power play goals on five chances.

Cornwall was helped by Brennan Markell, who registered one goal and one assist. Markell scored 5:01 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Keegan Mulhearn provided the assist. Cornwall also got points from Mulhearn, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Sebastian Dirven and Jeremy McFarlane, who each chipped in one.

Cole Skinner made 17 saves for the Hawks on 19 shots. Hawkesbury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Colts' Brett Nichol stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Cornwall incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
