Hawkesbury pulls away in second, rolls over Nepean, 9-3

 

The Nepean Raiders allowed the Hawkesbury Hawks to net four goals during the second period and fell, 9-3.

 

Reid Murphy had two goals and one assist to lead Hawkesbury. Murphy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:45 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Francis Marotte was whistled for delay of game. Jonathan Tecce picked up the assist. Murphy's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Hawkesbury with 19:51 left in the second period. Damien Charette assisted on the tally.

Hawkesbury forced Raiders' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 35 shots and forcing 26 saves. Marotte made 23 stops and Jack Ondrovic made three. The Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Hawkesbury averages 3.9 goals per game.

Hawkesbury also got points from Charles Levesque, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Adriano Leone, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Bruno Cheff, who also had two goals and one assist. Christopher Smith also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Ryan Bunka, who had two, Brandon Barillaro, who had four, and Brett Everson and Hunter Gunski, who contributed one each.

Nepean was helped by Derek Varrin, who tallied one goal. Varrin scored 2:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kari Belec picked up the assist. Others who scored for Nepean included Luke McCaw and Rory Garlasco, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Evan Lindquist, Hunter Garlasco, Josh Zizek, and Jody Sullivan, who each chipped in one.

James Hack made 21 saves for the Hawks on 24 shots. Hawkesbury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Raiders incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
