Hawkesbury completes comeback, beats Cumberland, 5-4

 

The Hawkesbury Hawks rallied from three goals down to secure a 5-4 win over the Cumberland Grads.

Hawkesbury never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Hawks was down 3-0 after a goal by Cumberland's Marc-Olivier Bouchard at 12:41 in the first period. Hawkesbury tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brett Everson at 6:21 in the third period. The Hawks scored the game winner at 9:21 in the third period on a goal by Everson.

 

Chris Smith had two goals to lead Hawkesbury to victory. Smith scored at 14:07 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland and again while on the power play 15:16 into the second to make the score 3-3.

The Hawks forced the Grads goalie Thierry Messervier to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Eric Theander and Joe Smith, who each put in one. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Damien Charette, Charles Levesque, Vincent Crivello, Julien Denicourt, Jacob Drobczyk, Ryan Jackson, and Bruno Cheff, who each chipped in one.

Cumberland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Grads were helped by Raphael Larose, who registered one goal. Larose scored 5:16 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cumberland. Cody Kyle picked up the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Bouchard, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Shawn Cameron, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mathieu Dubois also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Zackhary Salloum, Michael Larose, and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.

Cole Skinner made 25 saves for Hawkesbury on 29 shots. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Messervier recorded 32 saves for Cumberland. The Grads registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
