Carleton Place downs Ottawa in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

 

The Carleton Place Canadians pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators on a clutch goal by Bryce VanHorn.

 

VanHorn had a great game for Carleton Place, netting two goals. VanHorn scored at 2:20 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 3:47 into the fourth to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place.

Ottawa was stymied by the Canadians' netminder Colton Point, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Point managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.35 prior to the game.

Carleton Place stifled the Senators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Owen Grant, Lucas Batt, Geoff Kitt, and Nicolas Carrier, who each chipped in one.

Ottawa managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Senators finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Ottawa's offense operated below its season average. The Senators average 3.4 goals per game. Ottawa's offense rang up 33 shots on the Canadians' net.

The Senators were led by Brett Van Stralen, who scored the team's only goal. Van Stralen scored 5:43 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Evan Lindquist provided the assist.

Carleton Place incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ian Andriano made 23 saves for Ottawa on 25 shots. The Senators registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
