Frechette nets hat trick, leads Cumberland to 4-0 win over Kanata

 

The Kanata Lasers could not stop the Cumberland Grads' Martin Frechette, who tallied a hat trick in a 4-0 win.

Frechette notched his first tally 57 seconds into the third period. He then added goals at 4:40 into the third and at 17:24 into the third.

 

Ryan Coughlin frustrated Kanata's offense all game, and stopped 25 shots en route to a shutout. Coughlin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.93 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:17 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Cumberland put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lasers to score on any of their three power plays. The Grads was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Cumberland averages 2.9 goals allowed per game. The Grads' offense rang up 37 shots on Kanata's net.

Grant Hebert also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Joey Sollazzo and Benoit Villeneuve, who each chipped in one and Zackhary Salloum, Marc-Olivier Bouchard, and Shawn Cameron, who contributed two each.

Cumberland totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For the Grads, Matthieu Franche was ejected from the game. Alex Butler made 33 saves for the Lasers on 37 shots. Kanata ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Lasers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Taylor Carlson was ejected from the game.
