Hawkesbury outlasts Gloucester, 4-2

 

The Hawkesbury Hawks and the Gloucester Rangers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hawkesbury made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Chris Smith at 1:16 of the third period.

 

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Smith, who had two goals and one assist. Smith scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:56 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Hawkesbury had taken the advantage when Gloucester's Justin Brennan got sent off for slashing. Brett Everson picked up the assist. Smith's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Hawkesbury with 18:44 left in the third period. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Liam Hunter was whistled for high sticking. Charles Levesque provided the assist.

Hawkesbury managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Hawks finished below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Levesque, who also had one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Kyle Hillick as well. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Johnathan Kovacevic, who had three and Ryan Bunka and Nathan Sanderson, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers were led by Salim Mahi-Beaudry, who racked up two goals. Mahi-Beaudry scored the first of his two goals at 7:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gloucester. Dan Martin assisted on the tally. Mahi-Beaudry's next tally made the score 2-2 with 14:42 left in the second period. More assists for Gloucester came via Drew Shields, who had one.

Cole Skinner rejected 13 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Cedric Hansen recorded 24 saves for Gloucester. The Rangers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
