Cumberland holds on for 7-5 win against Pembroke

 

The Cumberland Grads survived a determined comeback attempt by the Pembroke Lumber Kings on the way to a 7-5 win.

Cumberland made the score 7-4 on a goal by Martin Frechette at 8:56 in the third period, and Pembroke got as close as 7-5 when Derek Varrin scored 16:51 into the third period.

 

Shawn Cameron had one goal and three assists to lead the Grads. Cameron scored 8:44 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Cumberland. Marc-Olivier Bouchard provided the assist.

Cumberland forced Lumber Kings' goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 46 shots and forcing 39 saves. Boyd Diclemente made 38 stops and Gabe Mollot-Hill made one. The Grads' goal total was higher than their season average. Cumberland has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Grads struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Lumber Kings to score three power play goals on five chances. Cumberland got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cumberland also got points from Frechette, who also had two goals and one assist and Simon Besner, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cumberland also had goals scored by Matthieu Franche, Grant Hebert, and Jared Leslie, who each put in one. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Zackhary Salloum, Mathieu Dubois, Michael Larose, and Joey Sollazzo, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were unable to stop Pembroke from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumber Kings eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Pembroke was led by Patrick Kyte, who registered one goal and two assists. Kyte scored 8:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Pembroke additionally got points from Varrin, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Alex Gilmour, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Chris Minns and Nicolas Vlahos, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pembroke came via Justin Felhaber and Brett Horn, who contributed one each.

Ryan Coughlin rejected 26 shots on goal for Cumberland. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Lumber Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
