Cornwall rides Nichol to victory over Hawkesbury, 6-1

 

Brett Nichol had a standout game with 31 saves, and the Cornwall Colts beat the Hawkesbury Hawks 6-1.

 

Lawson MacDougall was all over the ice for Cornwall, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. MacDougall scored the first of his two goals at 7:31 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. Jeremy McFarlane picked up the assist. MacDougall's next tally made the score 5-1 Cornwall with 40 seconds left in the third period.

The Colts kept Hawkesbury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Skinner made 28 saves on 34 shots. Cornwall found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Colts average 3.3 goals per contest.

Cornwall additionally got points from Brennan Markell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cornwall included Dean Derouchie, Keegan Mulhearn, and Matthew Morin, who each put in one. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Lawson MacDonald, who had two and Sebastian Dirven, Tanner Spink, and Justin McRae, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hawkesbury puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Hawks forced Cornwall goalie Nichol to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Hawkesbury was led by Chris Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 5:12 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Joe Smith assisted on the tally.
