CENTRAL CANADA HOCKEY ACADEMY LAUNCHES POWERED BY SENATORS HOCKEY PROGRAMS

 

The Central Canada Hockey Academy powered by the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs' (CCHA) mission is to help students achieve success both on and off the ice by fostering an atmosphere that promotes learning, personal growth, and a sense of community. The purpose of the CCHA is to develop and enhance students' skating and individual hockey skills and tactics.

Program Description

The Central Canada Hockey Academy powered by the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs, represents a partnership between the Ottawa Senators organization, the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Lester B. Pearson High School (LBP), and Titan Performance Centre, to meet the physical and social needs of students participating in sport. Grade 7 and 8 students will have the unique opportunity to participate in daily hockey-specific training sessions at state-of-the-art facilities while also completing the Ontario school curriculum immersed in the full school experience offered by the Ottawa Catholic School Board.

  • Five mornings per week,  3 hours on-ice and 3 hours off-ice per week
  • High-intensity training designed to elevate a player's overall game & performance

Central Canada Hockey Academy – Open House Information Session

Tuesday, june 20th, 2017- Richcraft Sensplex – Upstairs Meeting Room – 7:00pm-9:00pm

The open house is designed to inform parents and participants about the Central Canada Hockey Academy. Head Coach Marc Franche, Lester B. Pearson Principal William Walsh and Strength and Conditioning Coach Joey Kwasniewski will be available to discuss the benefits and options associated with the program.

Academics

All in-class components will take place at Lester B. Pearson H.S. Participants in the program would have a special timetable to accommodate their on and off ice training.  

The program will include components of the Ontario School Curriculum with qualified teachers from LBP part of the team of instructors so as to ensure that the training would contribute to participants earning a credit in Physical Education.

Participants in the program will also have a team of teachers from LBP who will be teaching and closely monitoring their academic progress in all subject areas so that all participants understand the importance of academics going hand in hand with an elite sports program.

Athletics

All athletic components, including on-ice and off-ice training, will take place at the Richcraft Sensplex (813 Shefford Road). The qualified CCHA and Titan Performance Centre staff will provide a fun, safe environment for male and female students to learn individual technical and tactical skills. Under the guidance of professional coaches, including a goal-tending instructor, they will work to develop and enhance skating as well as individual hockey skills. The CCHA aims to help fill the individual skill development gaps from the club system. 

The Central Canada Hockey Academy will consist of: 

  • 3 on-ice training sessions per week
  • 2 dry-land hockey-specific strength and conditioning sessions with Titan Performance Centre per week

On-ice development sessions will be designed and led by CCHA Head Coach Marc Franche. 

With more than 25 years of experience working with hockey schools and skill development camps, Marc has developed players who have gone on to play in the NHL, AHL, NCAA, OHL, QMJHL and CCHL. Marc specializes in developing and improving game situation skills through progression drills and repetition. 

  • Twenty five (25) years of overall coaching and development experience
  • Seven (7) years with CCHL Cumberland Grads organization as coach and manager
  • Head Coach HEO Midget AAA Grads
    • 100% Placement rate of 19 players from HEO Midget AAA team; 2 to OHL, 4 to CCHL, 7 to CCHL2, 2 to Prep School and 4 returning to the HEO program

 

Off-ice development sessions will be designed and led by Strength and Conditioning Coach Joey Kwasniewski, Lead Instructor Justin Cherrier and the Titan Performance Centre team.

During his ten year career as a performance coach Joey has worked with a multitude of elite level High School, CIS/USport and professional athletes with notable tenures with the Calgary Stampeders (6 years) and the Ottawa RedBlacks (2 years) of the CFL. Joey is a passionate and hardworking coach who teaches movement literacy by empowering his athletes with education to improve mobility, speed & strength using movement based training techniques

Program Details

Dates, Times & Cost

Richcraft Sensplex: September 2017 – June 2017

Program Eligibility: Children entering Grade 7 or 8; beginning September 2017.

Each class will be limited to a maximum of 28 participants including a maximum of 4 goaltenders. All on-ice sessions will be held at the Richcraft Sensplex (813 Shefford Road in East Ottawa).

Cost: $6,800

Program payment plan is availableof four installments is available. A 2% financing fee is associated with the payment plan.

EQUIPMENT & APPAREL

CCHA is pleased to provide students with a full apparel package which will include:

  • A reversible CCHA jersey with matching hockey socks
  • CCHA tracksuit
  • CCHA workout gear including shorts and moisture-wicking shirts (2) which are to be worn during all training sessions.

The CCHA requires that all students wear full CSA approved equipment for all ice sessions.  Any player missing a piece of equipment will not be permitted on the ice for that session. A mouth guard is optional, though recommended.

Following each training session, storage space will be provided for participant’s equipment at Lester B. Pearson H.S.

Morning drop-off between 7:30am-8:00am at Richcraft Sensplex. 

TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation between the Richcraft Sensplex and Lester B. Pearson High School during the school day is included in the cost of registration and will be provided for all CCHA participants.  

Parents and/or Guardians are responsible for arranging morning drop off at the Richcraft Sensplex and afternoon pick up at Lester B Pearson High School. All participants will also be issued an OC Transpo Presto pass to aid with transportation.
