CCHL Recap | Colts, Nationals, Grads and Lumber Kings Win Sunday Games

Ottawa, ON – Four games took place Sunday afternoon and into the evening in the Central Canada Hockey League. The Cornwall Colts traveled to Nepean for a Nepean Raiders matchup. In overtime, the Colts won 6-5. The Rockland Nationals hosted the Carleton Place Canadians, for a Nationals 3-1 win. The Navan Grads hosted the Brockville Braves, after 60-minutes the Grads took the game 11-4. The Pembroke Lumber Kings had a visit from the Ottawa Junior Senators, the Lumber Kings won 4-1.

F | Cornwall 6 Nepean 5 (OT)

Nepean took an early lead in the 1st period with Carson McGurn’s goal. Cornwall responded in the 2nd period with a goal from Fernand-Olivier Perron, but Nepean countered with goals from Curtiss Sturgeon and Oliver Band. The 3rd period saw a fierce comeback from Cornwall, with Tristan Miron netting two goals, and additional goals from Tyler Samodral and Nathan Garnier. Nepean fought back with goals from Mario Scalise and Oliver Band, sending the game into overtime. Ultimately, Tristan Miron sealed the win for Cornwall in the extra period to complete his hat-trick. Cornwall Colts goaltender Donald Hickey made 33 saves and Nepean goaltender Brady McEwan made 31 saves. 

F | Carleton Place 1 Rockland 3

Aidan Dres opened the scoring for Rockland in the 1st period. The 2nd period remained scoreless, intensifying the battle. In the 3rd period, Rockland extended their lead with goals from Kyle Leonard and Guillaume Labre. Carleton Place responded with a goal from Kyle Kudrna, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Rockland’s lead. Goaltender Aidan Feddema of Carleton Place made 28 saves, while Rockland’s Benoit Forget with 39 saves

F | Brockville 4 Navan 11

The 1st period saw Navan’s Nicholas Paone netting two goals, along with a goal from Sebbie Johnson. Brockville responded with goals from Anoushan Mugunthan and Jesse Lumsden. The 2nd period featured goals from Ryan McNally and Anoushan Mugunthan for Brockville, while Navan continued their scoring spree with goals from Devon Savignac and Matthew Roy. The 3rd period witnessed Navan’s offensive onslaught, including goals from Shaan Kingwell, Colin Holmes, Nicholas Paone, Sam Glover (2 goals), and Matthew Roy. Goaltender Zane Spaniol of Brockville made 44 saves, while Jaeden Nelson of Navan with 26 saves. 

F | Ottawa 1 Pembroke 4

In the 1st period, Pembroke set the tone with goals from Nathan Duck and Sutton Murray, establishing an early lead. The 2nd period remained scoreless as both teams battled defensively. Pembroke widened their advantage in the 3rd period, with Cam Hicklin scoring two goals. Ottawa managed to break the shutout with a goal from Jacob Renaud-Viau. Goaltender Connor Shibley of Ottawa made 23 saves, Pembroke’s netminder Kevin Jones made 35 saves.
