Carleton Place pulls away in second, rolls over Cumberland, 7-3

 

The Cumberland Grads was within striking distance after one period, but the Carleton Place Canadians put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-3 victory.

 

Carleton Place was led by Bryce VanHorn, who grabbed one goal and one assist. VanHorn scored 10:10 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place. Marcus Joseph assisted on the tally.

The Canadians forced Grads' goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Ryan Coughlin made 16 stops and Thierry Messervier made 12. Carleton Place found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Canadians average 4.9 goals per game.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Lucas Batt, who also registered one goal and one assist, Geoff Kitt, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Alex Friesen, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Nicolas Carrier, Connor Merkley, and Vinny Post, who each put in one. More assists for Carleton Place came via Colton Point, Owen Grant, Kyle Dowdall, Shawn Kennedy, and Brett Murray, who contributed one each.

Carleton Place was unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Cumberland was led by Branden Makara, who had one goal and one assist. Makara scored on the power play 11:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. The Grads had gotten the advantage when the Canadians' Kitt was sent off for slashing. Grant Hebert picked up the assist. Cumberland also got points from Michael Larose, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cumberland also got a goal from Shawn Cameron as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Adam Dauda and Raphael Larose, who each chipped in one.

Colton Point made 30 saves for Carleton Place on 33 shots. The Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
