Blacksmith, Power, Evenson earn CCHL monthly honours

Ottawa — The Central Canada Hockey League announced its three monthly award winners for the opening month of the 2017-18 on Thursday. Ottawa Jr. Senators forward Chiwetin Blacksmith earned Player-of-the-Month honours, Rockland Nationals defenceman Jordan Power was named Rookie of the Month, and Brockville Braves goaltender Justin Evenson earned Goaltender of the Month.

Blacksmith, 20, posted a ridiculous 19 points (6G, 13A) in 11 games with the Jr. Sens during the month of September, and is poised to be one of the league’s top point-producing 20 year-olds.

Power, 16, led all CCHL rookies with 10 points (1G, 9A) in his first 11 games of junior hockey while eating big minutes on Rockland’s top pairing.

Evenson, 18, currently leads CCHL goaltenders in goals-against (1.71) and save-% (.943). In six September starts, Evenson never gave up more than three goals — and only allowed that many once.

Honourable mentions for Player of the Month were Carleton Place forward Sam Knoblauch and Cornwall Colts forward Chris Theodore.

Rookie of the Month honourable mentions went to Smiths Falls forward Mitchell Larabie and Kanata Lasers forward Jack Quinn.

Goaltenders Jeremie Forget (Carleton Place) and Liam Lascelle (Cornwall) earned honourable mentions behind Evenson for the monthly puckstopper’s award.
