ALUMNI: FORMER LUMBER KINGS GOALIES EARN WCHA WEEKLY HONORS

’95 born Darren Smith and ’93 born Jamie Phillips put together strong weeks for their respective clubs as both earned WCHA weekly awards.

Darren Smith (pictured) – WCHA Rookie of the Week

The 20-year old Freshman goaltender helped Ferris State earn three points over the weekend stopping 38 of 42 shots.  The Barrie, ON native is 7-4-4 this season, sporting a 2.20 GAA and .924 SV%.  In two seasons with the Lumber Kings from 2012-2014, Smith went 48-21 with a 2.77 GAA. 

Jamie Phillips – WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

This was the second straight week and third time this season where Phillips would earn Defensive Player of the Week honors as he helped Michigan Tech to a three-point weekend in their games against league-leading Minnesota State.  The Caledonia, ON native and Michigan Tech Senior made 30 saves in a 2-2 tie Friday night before turning aside 25 of 26 shots in a 3-1 Saturday victory.  Phillips is now 13-6-4 this season with a 2.09 GAA and .918 SV%.
