Tyler Orban Committed to Robert Morris University

Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League along with the Nepean Raiders are proud to announce that ’00 born defenseman Tyler Orban has committed to Robert Morris NCAA D-1 University.

“Orbs (Tyler Orban) is a pro.  He practices hard every day and is focused on details of the game that will make him and his team better” said Raiders Head Coach, Darcy Findlay.

Orban, 17, is in his first full season of CCHL action after playing his age 16 season with the CCHL Tier 2 Arnprior Packers, where he posted 30 points (1G/29A) in 45 games last season. The Stittsville, Ontario native was originally acquired by the Nepean Raiders from the Carleton Place Canadians last year after originally being drafted by the Kanata Lasers in the first round, 8th overall in 2015.

As a ‘2000 born defenseman, Darcy Findlay believes that it’s never too early to commit to an NCAA school.

“The truth is there are fewer and fewer scholarships available to Canadians as players are coming from all over these days” mentioned Findlay. “This allows orbs to focus on his development and help the team be the best we can stress free.  He’ll be able to develop his game and become a mature vet”.

Among accomplishments, Orban won the 2016-17 Prospect of year award in the CCHL Tier 2 and won the HEO Midget AAA Championship with the Kanata Lasers the year before. Demonstrating his team first mentality on and off the ice.

“He understands the game and the process” said the Raiders Head Coach. “We are very excited for Tyler.  He’s a team first guy that has reaped the rewards of his hard work early on – a daily presence as a 17 year old”.

Tyler currently has four points (2G/2A) in 36 games with the Raiders this season. He joins Francis Marotte as Nepean’s second player to commit to Robert Morris in the last three seasons.
