Sturtz lifts Carleton Place over Hawkesbury, 3-1

 

Behind a great game by Andy Sturtz, who had two goals, the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks, 3-1.

Sturtz scored short handed at 11:37 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 19:53 into the third to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place.

 

Carleton Place's Guillaume Therien was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Therien managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.97 prior to the game.

The Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Carleton Place forced Hawkesbury goalie Gunner Rivers to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Connor Merkley as well. More assists for Carleton Place came via Devin Campbell, Tyson Stewart, Bryce VanHorn, and Jordan Larson, who contributed one each.

The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Carleton Place power plays. Hawkesbury's offense rang up 34 shots on the Canadians' net.

The Hawks were led by Rory Gagnon, who scored the team's only goal. Gagnon scored 14:29 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Hunter Racine assisted on the tally.

Carleton Place ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Canadians ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Craig Pefley was ejected from the game. Rivers recorded 33 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
