Doef leads Smiths Falls over Pembroke, 6-3

 

Neil Doef had two goals and two assists to lead the Smiths Falls Bears to a 6-3 victory over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Doef found the back of the net short handed 10:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 10:20 into the third to make the score 5-3 Smiths Falls.

 

Pembroke's power play was ineffective against Smiths Falls' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:13 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Bears racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Smiths Falls surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bears outdid their season average for goals scored. Smiths Falls averages 3.0 goals per game. The Bears were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

Smiths Falls also got points from Ryan Duhaime, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Noah Gurr, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Cole Busschaert, who also registered one goal and two assists. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Josh Leblanc as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Chris MacMillan, who had two and Jared Henry, Taylor Henry, and Michael McKenney, who contributed one each.

The Lumber Kings were often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Pembroke had been spending in the box. The Lumber Kings kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Pinios made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Pembroke was helped by Anthony Nellis, who tallied one goal. Nellis scored 3:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alexandre Boivin picked up the assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Jesse Blais and Zachary Borsoi, who scored one goal each. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Colton Keuhl, Dylan Chase, Nolan Redler, and Liam Biard, who each chipped in one.

For the Bears, Craig Cross was ejected from the game. Connor Hughes recorded 18 saves for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hudson Michaelis was ejected from the game.
