Sollazzo's big game bests Kanata in 11-3 Cumberland win

 

Behind a great game by Joey Sollazzo, who had two goals and three assists, the Cumberland Grads defeated the Kanata Lasers, 11-3.

Sollazzo scored at 12:38 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland and again while on the power play 6:49 into the third to make the score 9-2 Cumberland.

 

Kanata fell victim to a deadly Cumberland power play, which ripped the Lasers for four goals.

The Grads forced Lasers' goalies to work without much rest, totaling 34 shots and forcing 23 saves. Patrick Kealey made 17 stops and Alex Butler made six. Cumberland found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Grads average 4.3 goals per contest.

Cumberland additionally got points from Adam Dauda, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Shawn Cameron, who also had one goal and two assists, Michael Larose, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Martin Frechette, who also tallied two goals and three assists, and DAndre John, who also registered one goal and three assists. Cumberland also got a goal from Raphael Larose as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Zackhary Salloum, Ted McCabe, Simon Besner, and Costa Georgitsos, who each chipped in one and Branden Makara and Benoit Villeneuve, who contributed two each.

Kanata was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time.

The Lasers were helped by Mike McArthur, who had one goal. McArthur scored 13:51 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Cumberland. Quinn Pollock provided the assist. Ty Power also scored for Kanata. More assists for Kanata came via Preston Kugler and Dean Hewines, who each chipped in one.

Cumberland's Thierry Messervier stopped 12 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Grads incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kanata registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Lasers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kugler was ejected from the game.
