Smiths Falls beats Gloucester 4-2 after comeback scare

 

The Gloucester Rangers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Smiths Falls Bears held on for a 4-2 victory.

Smiths Falls made the score 4-1 on a goal by Corey Caruso at 5:01 in the third period, and Gloucester got as close as 4-2 when Paul Vella scored 14:02 into the third period.

 

The Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Gloucester power plays. The Rangers were unable to stop Smiths Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bears eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Smiths Falls was helped by Michael McKenney, who racked up one goal and one assist. McKenney scored 6:51 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Matthew Kenney picked up the assist. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Kenney, who also had one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Broydon Stufko as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Joey Rutkowski, who had two and Chris MacMillan, Sterling Bray, and Cole Busschaert, who each chipped in one.

Gloucester struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Bears to score two power play goals on three chances.

The Rangers were helped by Sander Boroczky, who registered one goal. Boroczky scored 18:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Smiths Falls. Vincent Guimond assisted on the tally. Gloucester also got points from Vella, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Dyllan Lubbesmeyer rejected 18 shots on goal for Smiths Falls. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Doug Johnston made 27 saves for Gloucester on 31 shots. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
