Shankar, Buckley net hat-tricks in Kemptville, Pembroke Wins

The Kemptville 73’s and Pembroke Lumber Kings emerged victorious from their respective pre-season games against split squads from the Nepean Raiders on Sunday.

The 73’s pounded a youthful Raiders team 7-2 at the Nepean Sportsplex in an afternoon contest, while the Lumber Kings edged a more-experienced Nepean squad 3-2 in Pembroke.

Kemptville 7, Nepean 2

Jacob Shankar’s hat trick led the way for the 73’s (2-0-0, pre-season) in a 7-2 walloping of the Nepean Raiders (0-2-0, pre-season), who iced a young team in the home portion of their split-squad doubleheader.

John Beaton, Jeff Taylor, Joe McGrath and Neal Samanski also scored in the win for Rob Dopson’s Kemptville team, which outshot Nepean 46-30.

Goaltender William Anderson was perfect between the pipes in a half-game for the 73’s, turning aside all 16 shots he faced; starter and veteran Peter Brooks allowed two goals on 14 shots.

Raiders roster hopeful Nick Domitrovic netted his second goal in as many games in a losing effort; Nepean U-18 product Aidan Parnell also found the net and now co-leads pre-season scoring with three goals.

Nepean 2, Pembroke 3

James Buckley’s hat-trick powered the Pembroke Lumber Kings (1-0-0, pre-season) to a 3-2 win in their exhibition debut against the visiting Nepean Raiders (0-3-0, pre-season).

Peter Falivena assisted all three of Buckley’s goals in the win for head coach Dale McTavish’s squad; Nick Manousos (two goals against) and Jake Smith (zero) combined to pick up the win in net for Pembroke.

Bailey Brant had a pair of assists in the loss for Nepean, which saw 20-year-old Kyle Alaverdy and summer-acquisition Matt Chan split time in net.
