12 Days, 12 Previews: Pembroke Lumber Kings

The Pembroke Lumber Kings will be looking for a significant improvement over 2016-17’s last-place finish.

Head coach and owner Dale McTavish’s roster has undergone a massive face lift, and hardly resembles the squad that began last year’s ill-fated campaign.

Pembroke was the league’s most-penalized team (1,168 PIMS) a year ago, and drew the second-most fans (855) behind Cornwall.

PEMBROKE LUMBER KINGS

2016-17: 22-38-2 (12th)

Key Losses: D Pat Kyte (QMJHL), D Taylor Egan (QMJHL), D Brendon Clavelle (QMJHL).

Key Additions: F Mason Emoff (Vermont, EHL), F Casey Rhodes (Albany Academy, USHS), F Connor Warnholtz (Nepean, CCHL)

Season Goal: “Obviously it’s getting into the playoffs, but beyond that, we’ll see. We definitely will have a bounce-back performance.”

Style of Hockey: “We want to be good in our own end; that’s a key for a lot of teams. We want to have a puck-possession and skilled team, and definitely want to start with being solid in the D-zone. Focusing on the powerplay, that could be a real strength and generate a lot of offence.”

Mood in Training Camp: “It’s positive, we had a good week of practice and training. I liked the attitude, liked the work ethic, so it’s been a good week.” — Dale McTavish
