Release | Update on Return to Play for 2020-21

OTTAWA, ON – In light of the current provincial policies the CCHL and HEO U18 member teams are pausing their season until such time as the province makes a return possible.

This weeks’ announcement establishes an earliest resumption date of February 11, 2021.

We have several options for season programming that depend on the date and conditions we are given from the provincial and local authorities.  Our plan remains to have a season of meaningful programming at this time.

Immediately upon this notice we will be in contact with all league players and families to provide details and start up procedures. We have worked with local municipalities and have secured ice for relatively immediate implementation.

For Junior A players, our priority will be providing players with competition and sessions to promote and advocate for opportunities at higher levels such as the CHL, NCAA, U-Sport and the NHL draft for those eligible.

Likewise, for the U18 players, we will work towards showcasing OHL draft eligible players as well as others who are pursuing NCAA options.

The annual Bantam Protected Draft (which was in early March 2020) will be moved to mid-March 2021 to allow for our 2006 Showcase Series to take place in the two weekends preceding the draft.  This is our projected but tentative timetable pending the necessary local and provincial guidelines.

Ensuring the players have the opportunity to skate prior to the draft in a structured setting is a priority. We will also be providing post draft programming for the selected players as well as free agent players for the 21-22 season.

Meanwhile please stay safe. Your patience and support are greatly appreciated by everyone in the CCHL.
