Release | Bears Ty Campbell wins 2021-22 CCHL Top Prospect Award

Ottawa, ON – The Central Canada Hockey League is pleased to announce that Smiths Falls Bears defenseman Ty Campbell has been voted the 2021-22 Top Prospect Award recipient.

The 2005 born Nepean, ON native has provided a strong presence on a young Bears blue line this season, chipping in with 12 points (4G, 8A) while being limited to just 33 games due to injury.

“Ty has had a terrific season,” said Bears Head Coach Pat Malloy. He is developing into one of the league’s top two-way defencemen. He has logged big minutes, playing consistently in crucial situations as a 16-year old, and has shown great poise in doing so. Ty has persevered through injury to exhibit a combination of calm defensive presence and skilled offensive instinct well beyond his years. He is very deserving of the league’s Top Prospect award, and his best hockey is certainly ahead of him.”

Prior to his time in the CCHL, Campbell, who was drafted by the Bears in the 2020 Bantam Protected Draft, played one season with the Bears U18 AAA club and came up through the Ottawa Myers AAA hockey program.
