Sochi, RU – The CCHL Ottawa Capitals came away with the Bronze Medal Sunday afternoon at the 2018 Junior Club Sirius World Cup in Sochi, Russia after a 2-1 Shootout victory over Red Bull Salzburg of Austria.
After two scoreless periods, Red Bull would get the games first goal 6 minutes into the third on a crafty effort from Oliver Nordberg.
With the pressure building and time ticking away, the Capitals would tally the equalizer with 12 minutes remaining as Benjamin Tupker jumped on a rebound to and made no mistake to deadlock the game 1-1.
After countless back-and-forth chances to finish regulation, the game would head to a 10-minute 4Vs4 overtime to possibly find a victor. Unfortunately neither team would find the net and the Bronze Medal would have to be earned via Shootout.
The first two shooters for Ottawa would have no luck, but luckily neither would the first three shooters for Red Bull, leaving the door open for Ashton Fry who would wire the go-ahead goal top shelf to put the Capitals in the drivers seat. Ottawa Goaltender Gabriel Carriere was rock-solid between the pipes, stopping his fourth consecutive Austrian shooter following that. It would then be Ryland Mosley with the chance to win the Bronze Medal for the Capitals, and he would do just that as he froze the Red Bull goaltender with a fake shot and beat him clean to lift the Capitals to victory.
With the Junior Club Sirius World Cup now complete, the 2018-19 CCHL season will get underway this long-weekend at the Bell Sensplex in Kanata, ON. To follow along, find all information at TheCCHL
