RECAP | Nepean and Ottawa win Wednesday night

Ottawa, ON — Nepean came out strong against Kemptville netting 3 in the first period, while Ottawa secured a suspenseful win in shoot out over Renfrew.

Nepean 5, Kemptville 2
Nepean secured a 5-2 victory over Kemptville, with a dominant first period setting the tone. Nepean jumped to a 3-1 lead early on, with goals from Kinghan, Smetham, and Campbell, while Kemptville responded with a goal from Canevari. The second period was scoreless but marked by several penalties, including multiple face-mask violations. In the third, Kemptville’s Loreto scored to cut Nepean’s lead to 3-2, but Nepean responded with a power-play goal from Williamson and an empty-net goal from Benoit to seal the win. Nepean outshot Kemptville 26-34, and while Kemptville had six power-play opportunities, they failed to score. Nepean’s Brant had a strong performance in net, stopping 32 of 34 shots, while Kemptville’s Donovan and Jones combined for 21 saves on 26 shots.

Ottawa 3, Renfrew 2 (OT)
Ottawa edged out Renfrew 3-2 in a tight game that went to a shootout after a scoreless first period and a back-and-forth second. Ottawa took a 1-0 lead early in the second with a goal from Demers, but Renfrew responded with a goal from Streska to tie it at 1-1. Ottawa regained the lead late in the period with a goal from Iserhoff, making it 2-1. In the third, Renfrew’s Paron scored to tie the game again at 2-2, forcing overtime. Despite chances in the overtime period, neither team could find the back of the net, and the game went to a shootout. Ottawa’s Iserhoff and Brennan scored in the shootout, while Renfrew’s Glover converted, but Protopapas and Souliere were stopped. Ottawa’s Scully made 32 saves on 34 shots, while Renfrew’s Kurtiak stopped 25 of 27 shots. Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
