Ottawa, ON — Both Brockville and Cornwall were able to secure wins Thursday night.
Brockville 2, Kemptville 1
Brockville defeated Kemptville 2-1 in a tightly contested game, with both teams exchanging goals in the second period. Brockville took the lead late in the first period when Lumsden scored at 17:19, assisted by McNally. Kemptville quickly equalized in the second, with Trottier scoring just 30 seconds in, assisted by McDougall and Sweetapple. However, Brockville regained the lead at 5:27 when Biniaris netted a goal with assists from Dinis and Urbach. Despite numerous penalties, neither team scored in the third period. Kemptville struggled on the power play, going 0-for-3, while Brockville was also unsuccessful, going 0-for-6. Kemptville’s goalie Jones made 41 saves on 43 shots, while Brockville’s Gerlich stopped 19 of 20 shots, securing the 2-1 win for the home team.
Cornwall 5, Hawkesbury 2
Cornwall came from behind to defeat Hawkesbury 5-2. Hawkesbury took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Charbonneau scored at 4:12, assisted by Medeiros and Gagne. Cornwall responded in the second with a power-play goal by Gilmour at 12:53, followed by McCuaig’s power-play goal at 15:43 and Speck-Meek’s goal at 19:27 to take a 3-1 lead. In the third, Hawkesbury cut the deficit to 3-2 when Perron scored on the power play at 7:31, but Cornwall answered with Bowen’s power-play goal at 9:08 and McCuaig’s second of the game at 16:36 to secure the win. Despite Hawkesbury’s 33 shots on goal, Cornwall outshot them 44-33 and capitalized on the power play, going 4-for-5, while Hawkesbury was 1-for-4. Goaltenders Ruddy of Hawkesbury and Chabot of Cornwall both played well, with Ruddy stopping 39 of 44 shots and Chabot saving 31 of 33.
