Ottawa vanquishes Carleton Place in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Carleton Place Canadians in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Ottawa also got a shootout goal from Connor Bebb.

 

The Senators came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Ottawa trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by Carleton Place's Stephen Baylis at 6:30 in the third period. The Senators knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Johnathan Kovacevic at 9:42 in the third period.

Ottawa was paced by Ryan Cranford, who had one goal. Cranford scored on the power play 9:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. A high sticking penalty on Tyson Stewart had put the Senators on the power play. Joey Champigny assisted on the tally.

Ottawa's offense rang up 32 shots on the Canadians' net. The Senators could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ottawa also got a goal from Robert Michel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Derek Varrin, Bruno Cheff, and Jim Pearson, who contributed one each.

Carleton Place forced Ottawa goalie Alexandre Savard-Belanger to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Willie Brooks, Connor Merkley, Bryce VanHorn, Jordan Larson, and Craig Pefley, who each chipped in one.

Savard-Belanger recorded 30 saves for the Senators. Ottawa registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
