Dawson's big game bests Kanata in 5-1 Gloucester win

 

Dorian Dawson had one goal and two assists to lead the Gloucester Rangers to a 5-1 victory over the Kanata Stallions.

Dawson beat Jonathan Peacock with a shot 35 seconds into the second period on the power play to make the score 2-1 Gloucester. Zackhary Salloum picked up the assist. Dawson dished an assist on Michael Blacksmith's goal that made the score 4-1 Gloucester at 1:02 into the third period. He added another helper on Vincent Guimond's goal that made the score 5-1 Gloucester at 5:30 into the third period.

 

Gloucester's David Richer was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Richer will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.55.

Kanata fell victim to a deadly the Rangers power play, which ripped the Stallions for four goals.

Gloucester forced Kanata goalie Peacock to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Gloucester additionally got points from Salloum, who also registered one goal and one assist, Branden Makara, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Guimond, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Gloucester came via Diego Gagnon, Matt Foget, and Lucas Zwaagstra, who contributed one each.

The Stallions racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Kanata had been spending in the box.

The Stallions were led by Taylor Egan, who scored the team's only goal. Egan scored on the power play 5:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kanata. A boarding penalty on Antonio Micucci had put Kanata on the power play. Ian Johnston provided the assist.

The Rangers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Gloucester ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Micucci was ejected from the game. The Stallions' Peacock stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Kanata registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Stallions, Johnny Kyte was ejected from the game.
