Ottawa downs Kanata, 8-3

 

Zachary Cross grabbed two points to lead the Ottawa Senators to an 8-3 victory over the Kanata Lasers.

 

Ottawa's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Senators average 3.4 goals per contest. Ottawa struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Ottawa additionally got points from Evan Lindquist, who also registered one goal and one assist, Greg Meireles, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Daniel Sarracco, who also registered one goal and two assists, Jody Sullivan, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Mitchell Gibson, who also had one goal and one assist. Dean Hewines also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Isaac Anderson, Brett Van Stralen, Elie Boulerice, and Jaren Burke, who each chipped in one and Luke McCaw and Jim Pearson, who contributed two each.

Kanata stifled the Senators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lasers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kanata finished with 18 penalty minutes.

The Lasers were led by Yannick Martel, who registered one goal and one assist. Martel scored on the power play 16:50 into the third period to make the score 8-3 Ottawa. Kanata had gained a power play chance when Van Stralen was whistled for roughing. Luke Seper provided the assist. Others who scored for Kanata included Guisten Annetta and Joey Laird, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kanata received assists from Cole Lussier, Declan Hilton, Jacob Balca, and Tyler Young, who each chipped in one.

Marcus Paulino recorded 14 saves for Ottawa. The Senators registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Jordan Vachon made nine saves before being replaced by Alex Butler, who took the loss and made 10 saves.
