Nepean's comeback falls short, Cumberland wins 3-1

 

The Nepean Raiders almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Cumberland Grads managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end.

Cumberland led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Grads' Zackhary Salloum scored on the power play at 15:04 in the first period to put Cumberland up 3-0.

 

The Grads' Thierry Messervier was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Messervier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.23 entering the contest.

Cumberland was led by Grant Hebert, who tallied one goal. Hebert scored 7:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cumberland. Mathieu Dubois picked up the assist.

The Grads excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Cumberland forced Nepean goalie Francis Marotte to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Cumberland also got points from Martin Frechette, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Cumberland came via Marc-Olivier Bouchard, who had two and Shawn Cameron and Michael Larose, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders were led by PJ Heger, who scored the team's only goal. Heger scored 10:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Samuel Meisenheimer assisted on the tally.

The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Marotte rejected 35 shots on goal for Nepean. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
