McVeigh's goals lift Carleton Place to 5-2 victory over Smiths Falls

Anthony McVeigh was all over the ice for the Carleton Place Canadians, as he tallied two goals in Carleton Place's 5-2 win over the Smiths Falls Bears.

McVeigh found the back of the net 2:47 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 7:05 into the second to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place.

The win gave the Canadians a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Carleton Place excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Canadians' offense rang up 40 shots on Smiths Falls' net.

Carleton Place also had goals scored by Andy Sturtz, Vinny Post, and Dylan Gareau, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Tyson Stewart, who had two and Elias Ghantous, Anthony Latina, Stephen Cooney, and Kelly Summers, who each chipped in one.

The Bears stifled Carleton Place's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Smiths Falls was helped by Stefano Momesso, who registered one goal. Momesso scored 18:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Domenic Camastra provided the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Karson McCartney as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Ben Beasley, Brandon Lesway, and Chris King, who contributed one each.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 17 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Michael Pinios made 35 saves for the Bears on 39 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
