Kanata survives Cornwall comeback, wins 7-6

 

The Kanata Lasers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Cornwall Colts and clinched a 7-6 victory.

Kanata led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Lasers' Cody Bean scored on the power play at 11:47 in the second period to put Kanata up 5-2.

 

Louis-Charles Croteau and Bryce Biller provided the spark for the Lasers, combining for three goals and one assist. Croteau tallied two goals and one assist and Biller also added one goal.

Kanata found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Lasers average 4.0 goals per contest. Kanata capitalized on Cornwall's penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage. The Lasers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kanata also had goals scored by Ty Power, Bennett Altman, and Michael Locatelli, who each put in one. More assists for Kanata came via Ian Johnston, who had one and Dean Hewines and Cole Lussier, who each chipped in two.

The Colts' offense rang up 39 shots on Kanata's net. Cornwall bested its season scoring average. The Colts average 3.3 goals per game.

Cornwall was led by Nick Lalonde, who registered one goal and three assists. Lalonde scored 12:19 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Kanata. Brennan Markell assisted on the tally. Cornwall also got points from Ross Craig, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Grant Cooper, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Cornwall included Keegan Mulhearn and Lawson MacDougall, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Sebastian Dirven, Tristan Conrad, Jeremy McFarlane, and David Chevrier, who contributed one each.

The Lasers' Alex Butler stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Liam Lascelle took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by James Edwardson who made four saves. The Colts incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
