Kanata rips Gloucester, 7-3

 

The Gloucester Rangers had trouble finding ways to stop the Kanata Lasers, which beat Rangers, 7-3.

 

Kanata got the win thanks to a great game by Tyler Young, who had one goal and two assists. Young scored 5:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kanata. Jacob Balca provided the assist.

The Lasers forced Gloucester's goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Jean-Sebastien Gratton made 24 stops and Cedric Hansen made two. Kanata bested its season scoring average. The Lasers average 1.8 goal per game. Kanata was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes.

Kanata also got points from Kyle Weedmark, who also had one goal and one assist, Cole Lussier, who also registered one goal and one assist, Louis-Charles Croteau, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Joey Laird, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kanata included Jacob Moreau and Ciaran Morgan1, who each put in one. In addition, Kanata received assists from Guisten Annetta, Ty Power, Michael Locatelli, David Pearce, and Will Gauthier, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Gloucester finished with 20 penalty minutes.

The Rangers were led by Paul Vella, who racked up two goals. Vella scored the first of his two goals at 8:36 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kanata. Matt Adams picked up the assist. Vella's next tally made the score 6-2 Kanata with 1:32 left in the second period. Gloucester had taken the advantage when the Lasers' Laird got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Salim Mahi-Beaudry provided the assist. Gloucester also got a goal from Dan Martin as well. More assists for Gloucester came via Sander Boroczky, Vincent Guimond, and Clayton Carter, who contributed one each.

Patrick Kealey made 24 saves for Kanata on 27 shots. The Lasers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Rangers registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
