Huge game by Murphy boosts Hawkesbury over Kanata, 8-1

Reid Murphy had one goal and three assists to lead the Hawkesbury Hawks to an 8-1 victory over the Kanata Lasers.

Murphy got on the board by slotting home a goal 19:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hawkesbury. Hunter Racine picked up the assist. Murphy dished an assist on Ross Mandigo‘s goal that made the score 4-0 Hawkesbury at 7:24 into the second period. He then added assists on Damien Charette‘s goal at 10:07 into the third and on Mandigo’s goal at 12:51 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:09 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

Hawkesbury forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Hawkesbury forced Lasers’ goalies to work in net, firing 31 shots and forcing 23 saves. Brian Wilson made 17 stops and Patrick Kealey made six. The Hawks’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Kanata power plays. Hawkesbury bested its season scoring average. The Hawks average 3.5 goals per game.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Jason Brochu, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Jonathan Cyr, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Domenic Camastra, who had three and Pierre Ouellette, Michael Ethier, and Chris Harper, who each chipped in one.
