Pembroke squeaks by Ottawa, 6-4

The Pembroke Lumber Kings and the Ottawa Senators were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Pembroke made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Lumber Kings gained the winning advantage on a goal by Adam Dauda 19:27 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Pembroke was paced on offense by Anthony Nellis and Felix Chamberland, who combined for seven points. Nellis registered one goal and three assists and Chamberland also notched two goals and one assist.

The Lumber Kings struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Ottawa to score two power play goals on three chances.

Pembroke additionally got points from Chamberland, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Ryan Casselman, who also had one goal and two assists. Pembroke also got a goal from Colton Keuhl as well. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Stephen Cooney, who had three and Brendan Valko, Hudson Michaelis, and Owen McDade, who contributed one each.

The Senators’ normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Ottawa averages 2.4 goals allowed per game.

The Senators were helped by Carl Faucher, who finished with two goals. Faucher scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Ottawa had taken the advantage when Pembroke’s Stephan Beauvais got sent off for cross checking. Shawn Lynch provided the assist. Faucher’s next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Ottawa with 1:01 left in the second period. Zach Car picked up the assist. Ottawa also got points from Lynch, who also registered one goal and one assist. Robert Michel also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Jim Pearson, who had two and Sean Rappleyea, Joey Champigny, and Brandon Watt, who each chipped in one.

Jordan Piccolino made 25 saves for the Lumber Kings on 29 shots. Pembroke incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Senators’ Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 18 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Ottawa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
