Gloucester beats Nepean 2-1 after comeback scare

 

The Nepean Raiders tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Gloucester Rangers held on for a 2-1 victory.

A goal by Paul Vella put Gloucester up 2-0 in the first period, but Nepean pulled to within one on Luke McCaw's tally 5:44 into the third period.

 

The Rangers were led by goalie Doug Johnston, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Johnston managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.92 prior to the game.

Gloucester kept the Raiders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Francis Marotte made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Gloucester also got a goal from Vincent Guimond as well. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Jahwara Rennalls, Salim Mahi-Beaudry, Sander Boroczky, and Matt Adams, who contributed one each.

The Rangers were unable to stop Nepean from sending pucks towards the net, and the Raiders eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

More assists for Nepean came via Rowan Savidant, who had one.

Gloucester incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Nepean incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
